His Own Bed

Jackson is now sleeping in his crib 100% of the time. No more pack 'n play in our bedroom. He was ready - probably weeks ago. I was holding on. Sure, it was awfully convenient to have him right there at the foot of the bed for those middle of the night feedings. Or so I said. In reality, I needed him there. I needed to hear every single stir, every single breath, every single sigh. I still hear those things, only now it's through a baby monitor. And I still have to get up at least once in the night with him, only now I walk across the hall to pick him up. It's not so bad.

Now if only we could get him to sleep through the night.

Wow! What a big boy. I was the same way, I had to check on Linus often. Finally, around one year of age, I got the checks down to once a night before I went to sleep. It will also help when he becomes a more active sleeper. You'll hear him flipping around and know that he's fine.

Technically, "sleeping through the night" is defined as 6 hours uninterrupted, not the 10-12 that they sleep total. At Jack's age, most mamas I know tried to establish a feed at 11PM-ish before they called it a night so that baby would sleep the 6 hours from 11 to 5. Is he anywhere near that time frame? Also, Linus's sleep stretches increased SIGNIFICANTLY once he was able to roll over and sleep on his belly. Then the startle reflex lessened and he was able to get into a comfortable position. Hang in there, Mama, he'll be there before you know it.
