Jack and I started our summer swim class today, Aqua Mom & Me. It is a fitness class for new moms using your baby as weight and resistance. Of course, the added bonus is introducing the little man to the water (something his mom has never been much of a fan of).
I was thinking my return to yoga this week was going to have me pretty stiff and sore. WRONG. Aqua Mom & Me kicked yoga's ass. But we had a fabulous time!
This was my first visit to the Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center and I was impressed! What an awesome place. There were about 10 moms and babies in the class, including Trish & Isabella Neuteboom. I work with Bella's Daddy, Eric, and she is going to be joining Jackson at Holly's house at the end of the summer. The kids were anywhere from 6 -14 months old and all of them were darling.
Jack has never been in a swimming pool before. And while he's over his fear of the bathtub, I wasn't sure what to expect. As we walked down the stairs into the water he clung to me pretty tightly and had a very unsure look on his face. But as soon as we were all the way in he relaxed and ended up really enjoying the class.
I, on the other hand, hurt. While marching in place we had to lift our babies up over or heads and down, straight in front of us and back, to the right and back, to the left and back. Again and again and again. Lucky me has the 20 lb. kid instead of some lightweight. Ouch. My arms feel like noodles.
But hey, it is a fitness class after all. I was so glad that Jackson wasn't afraid of the water. He smiled and giggled and seem to really enjoy it. Except for when I dunked him. He wasn't such a fan of that.
He was asleep before the car even left the parking lot. As soon as we got home I gave him a quick bath to get the chlorine off and then he had a bottle and went right back to sleep.
So that's where you can find us every Saturday morning through July. Jackson playing in the pool and his "Aqua Mom" building up some serious biceps!
