It seems like the past week has been spent digging out. Digging out of the piles (and piles, and piles) of toys and gifts that Jackson got for Christmas. Digging out of the piles of laundry that built up after our travels. Digging out of the piles of work on my desk after a 10 day vacation/furlough. And, of course, digging out of the snow that seems to be never ending. In fact, as I type, Drew is pulling yet another all-nighter as snow continues to fall, wind howls and the temperature plummets. Mother Nature, if you're listening, enough already!
With all of this digging, I've neglected to close the loop on Christmas 2009.
You already know about our wonderful Christmas Day here at home. And the cabin fever that followed as our plans to travel to Junction City and Denver for celebrations with our families were in question.
As it turned out, the gods were on our side. While we waited for the weather to clear, we got to spend some extra time with Auntie Cortney who was in town for the holiday. Bonus! By Wednesday snow storm #1 was cleaned up and we managed to fit in a quick trip to both sides of the family before storm #2 arrived on Sunday.
The first stop was Junction City for the Elser Christmas where the Bartel Family was already in town visiting Gram & Grump. We had a lovely afternoon with 2 toddlers as entertainment, exchanged fabulous gifts all around and enjoyed a spaghetti dinner. As always, we left wishing Abby, Adrian & Linus lived closer. Just look at these two blond-headed and blue-eyed boys...does it get any cuter than my nephew and my son?!
From there we went on to Denver for the Wagner Christmas. Once again, the gifts kept coming. We ate ourselves sick - The Castle Cafe for chicken fried steak one night (Drew's new fave when we visit my folks) followed by crab legs & prime rib at Mom's house the next night. And we laughed until we cried while playing Wii bowling and fencing. (I even have video that might just make the blog one of these days.) As always, we left wishing Nana & Papa Wags weren't quite so far away.
Jackson was quite a trooper for the 8-hour drive home. We were armed with snacks, books, toys and a portable DVD player. We determined he's a bit young for the DVD player (in other words, he couldn't have cared less if there was a movie in front of him) but the snacks were effective. Fortunately, Gram & Grump saved the day by letting us stop at their house for a break and a home-cooked meal after 6 hours of the drive. It made the final 2 hour stretch a piece of cake!
I think that brings you up to speed on Christmas 2009. We're still working on finding homes for all of Jack's "stuff" (some of which will be put away in closets until spring or summer). I did; however, get the pictures organized from all 3 celebrations. You you can view them here:
And now we move on to 2010. I still can't believe it's 2010. Didn't we just get through the whole Y2K thing? At any rate, 2009 was a pretty remarkable year for our little family. Here's to hoping 2010 brings more of the same!
