For the first time since Jackson was born, Drew & I spent an entire day together, just the two of us. Sure, we've hired babysitters for date nights or afternoon outings. But 8 am - 5 pm with no kiddo? Never.
There was no special occasion. Just a desire to get some yard work done and the opportunity to burn a couple of vacation days. So Jack went to Miss Holly's in the morning and Drew & I spent the entire day together. We went out to breakfast. We hunted all over town for the perfect planters for our new patio (and found them!) We bought flowers and bushes. The morning showers prevented us from getting equipment in the yard so we couldn't really tackle the landscaping. But we did get all of our pots and planters done. It was not only a productive day, but a fun one.
At 5:00 we picked up Jack, played in the backyard all evening while Drew grilled an amazing pork tenderloin and then went for a family walk (a nightly tradition since spring arrived).
Once the little guy was asleep, Drew & I reflected on our day.
Drew: That was a fun date day.
Heidi: It really was. I mean, all these years later and we still like each other.
Drew: Yep. Who knew?
Okay, so we were being a little silly. But it's actually quite true. And our "date day" was a nice reminder.
I love my husband with all of my heart. And here we are, nearly 14 years after meeting each other, and it turns out I still like him a whole lot, too!
