Backyard: Before & After

Several months ago, I documented the addition of our new patio in the backyard.  I intended on doing a before and after post once the landscaping and accessorizing was finished, but never got around to it. 

The back yard is still a work in progress.  Next, we plan to build a swing set/play area for Jackson.  And rebuilding our deck is also on the bucket list.  But considering where it started, we're pretty happy with how the yard has taken shape over the years.

Here it is in 2007 when we bought the house.

We immediately tore out the tree (that was planted WAY too close to the house.  And later that summer Drew added a retaining wall.

In 2008 we painted.

Then came the patio and some new landscaping (16 rose bushes, 2 hibiscus pots and a Japanese maple tree).

Here is is today.

Much improved, don't you think?
