Every Fall my company participates in the United Way campaign. One of the fundraising efforts, that has been an annual tradition as long as I can remember, is a pancake feed for all employees. Staff members donate the supplies (griddles, pancake mix, juice, fruit, etc.) and even volunteer to do the cooking. For $5 you get to take a break from your desk, put away as many pancakes as you can stomach and all proceeds go to a good cause. Not a bad deal!
This year, I decided to bring Jack.
He is a MAJOR pancake fan. I knew he would love it. I also knew the United Way committee wouldn't turn down another paying customer. So this morning, he came to work with me for a quick breakfast before heading on to school.
Jack is a really good kid. Of course, he has his moments. But for the most part, he knows when circumstance require good behavior. I attribute a lot of that to the amount of time we spend at the Country Club - where being a good listener and exhibiting manners and etiquette are a must. I am never nervous about taking him to restaurants, stores or public places because he has never given me reason to be. (I should retract that last sentence as I probably just put a serious hex on myself!)
Today was no different. He was so excited to be coming to "Mommy's office" this morning. He spoke to my co-workers when they asked him questions. He took off his hat when he sat down - because there are "no hats at the table, Mommy". He ate quietly and didn't leave a messy trail behind him. He politely thanked chef Eric when we were all done.
He was a really good boy.
And I was a really proud mama!
