Sprucing up the Backyard

I promised in the Curb Appeal post a peek at some improvements we made to the back yard as well, so here goes.

This is my new favorite spot.

It's been 2 years since we added the patio to the backyard (man, it doesn't seem that long ago) and the poor, decrepit deck has sat empty ever since.  Until now.

Target came to the rescue with some comfy and uber-affordable chairs that now offer a pop of color and a perfect perch atop the deck.

From this angle you can also see the hanging basket and our little herb garden (dill, basil and rosemary this year) hanging over the railing.

Here is the view while seated - although it's much more panoramic in person than behind the lens of a camera.  Just to the left is the play set where Jackson can usually be found.  The patio is to the right, where Drew is often manning the grill.  And in the evening, after the sun goes down, the sky is bright with stars and you can see forever.  We live on the extreme edge of town so there aren't city lights or traffic noises to contend with.  I had forgotten about the view from up there.  And how peaceful it can be.

The patio is looking good, too.  See the 3rd of our "new to us" planters on the left?  And the rose bushes are in full bloom - in fact, we're likely going to thin them out a little and transplant some to the front yard.

They're simply lovely right now.

I should mention the yard itself, as well.  Drew has the grass looking absolutely fabulous.  It's green and thick and plush and just perfect for our daily games of kickball, catch and batting practice.

The last of the backyard improvements is our garden.

4 tomato plants and 2 cucumber plants.  I'm not much of a gardener, but so far they are looking great and already have some buds sprouting.  If this year is successful I think I'll branch out a bit next year and try some other veggies, too.

Not major improvements (we still have big dreams of tearing down the deck and building a new, multi-level one), but improvements none the less.
