House Progress

We aren't exactly any closer to moving day, thanks to an early May snow and a few days of rain delaying construction, but there has been some progress on the decision making front.

Last week we met with the designers in the Journey Homes Design Center to select some of the finishes for the house.

What could have been a bit overwhelming (it's hard to visualize those little 3 inch samples in an entire room) was actually much easier than I anticipated.  We went with our gut and, as usual, Drew & I were totally on the same page.  In under an hour, we selected carpet, flooring, cabinets, counters, back splash, tile, grout, stone, and paint.  We did not have lighting or hardware to select; although, we did get to choose between nickel and oil rubbed bronze (we went with the latter) for those finishes.

It's hard to make sense of these photos I snapped on my phone, but here's the pallet for the inside and out.

I can hardly wait to see it all come together.

Needless to say, I've also been spending lots of time on Pinterest and my favorite design websites as I brainstorm ways to decorate and organize our new space.  Thanks to a big sale and a "welcome to the neighborhood" coupon, new bedding for both Jack's and our room has been ordered.

In Jack's room we're playing it pretty safe with something that he can easily grow with in this navy and white stripe.

I did splurge a little for the monogrammed sham, though.

My plan is to accent with green and I'm now tossing around ideas for closet and toy organization as well as some fun activity stations since his room will likely be more of a play area than it was in our Kansas house.  Jackson has the dresser and nightstand that were Drew's growing up so I want to bring some life back to them as well.  New knobs at least and perhaps a paint treatment of some sort as well.

For the master bedroom I finally ordered the bedding I've had my eye on for several years.

I ended up purchasing a different color (soot) than I was originally drawn to (slate), but when the associate at West Elm showed it to me paired with the shams below, I was sold.

I'm excited to go a different direction from the chocolate and blue we've had for years and plan to bring yellows into the room as an accent color (the yellow is more prominent in the sham than the picture above shows).  I'm already visualizing some yellow floral arrangements around the over sized soaker tub in the master bath.  So relaxing!

We've made one other new house purchase recently that is much more to Drew's liking than bedding...a sound bar for the family room.  It's a super sleek (and wireless) surround sound system with Bluetooth technology so not only will it be hooked up to the TV, but it will play music wirelessly from either of our iPhones.  I've got to admit, I'm pretty stoked about that purchase too.

Little by little we're getting there.  Now, we're hoping to be on target for mid-July so we can take advantage of the neighborhood pool before summer comes to a close.  Here's to smooth sailing the rest of the way...I can hardly wait till moving day!
