Drew and I are supposed to be here today. Through my contacts at work, I was able to get us credentials to the US Open in San Diego, CA as guests of the USGA. We're talking rock star credentials! My brother lives in San Diego so we even had a free place to crash. It was going to be our summer vacation - a few days on the golf course followed by a few days on the beach. Then I found out I was pregnant.
We labored over the decision for weeks...should we go or shouldn't we. On the one hand, it could be sort of our "last hurrah" before baby comes and turns our world upside down. On the other hand, we were concerned about how I would be feeling (12 hour days walking a golf course in the sun might not be so much fun if I was feeling pukey and exhausted). We were also trying to be responsible about the cost. Even with our free credentials and free housing, the plane tickets and rental car alone would put us at $1,000 and that doesn't include food and fun. I could furnish a nursery with that amount of money! So we decided not to go.
As it turns out, Drew is in the midst of some major projects at work right now that really require his presence so it's probably best that we're home. And even though I feel fantastic (not a single day of pukey yet!) I am absolutely exhausted all the time. Although, I'm sure I could rest just as comfortably here as I can in my living room!
So we sacrificed our summer vacation. But I'm putting the word out now to all of you grandparents and aunts & uncles...Drew & I will be needing a babysitter in June of 2009 (US Open at Bethpage in NY) or 2010 (US Open at Pebble Beach in CA). Mark your calendars!
