Our plan all along was not to tell anyone we were pregnant until we made it through the first trimester. Obviously, getting this far had been such a challenge we didn't want to send out an APB until we felt like we had made it past the riskiest part of the pregnancy. We were fully aware that women with PCOS have an even greater chance of miscarriage and that was slightly terrifying. Unfortunately, when your entire immediate family knows the exact date your insemination occurred, it's kind of hard to keep a secret for 12 weeks.
Drew & I got the good news on Monday, May 5, 2008. But we were scheduled for another blood test on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 just to be sure. We decided to wait until Wednesday and then we would tell immediately family only.
On Wednesday we got 2 pieces of news. Yes - we were indeed pregnant and there was no mistake in the lab. And, in fact, my hCG levels were so high the nurses asked me if I was prepared for multiples because these were "twins numbers". My answer...Um - No! We spent the next 2 weeks thinking we might be having twins. (Which, for the record, would have been just fine with us - I think.)
That night we called our parents and I called Nikki & Matt (I'm pretty sure Drew had already spilled the beans to Austin before Wednesday - cheater!). They were the most fun phone calls I've ever made! My Mom & Dad were on speaker phone together and I told them they needed to start thinking about whether they'd like to be called Nana & Papa (sort of a tradition in our family) or Grandma & Grandpa. They then screamed in my ear for what felt like a really long time. It was awesome!
(Just for memory's sake I want to interject here that Dad's answer to that question - in his always diplomatic way - was that he would go by whatever baby girl/boy wanted to call him. Mom - in her not so diplomatic but extremely excited and emotional way replied - she didn't care either, she'd go by "dip shit" for all she cares! Oh mom.)
I didn't hear Drew's conversation with his parents, but I know they were equally as excited. My calls with Nikki & Matt were similar...I told them they were about to be an Aunt & Uncle and they couldn't have been more supportive and excited.
So the immediately families knew. Only 8 more weeks and we can tell the rest of the world!
