A Five Star Day

That's what my horoscope said this morning. It was right.

Actually, if I'm being totally honest, the day started out a little iffy. When Drew & I arrived at the doctor's office I checked in and the receptionist said a sonogram had not been ordered. I knew that was wrong and this was something I was NOT budging on, so I held my ground. Long story short, the stupid midwife that I saw at my last appointment screwed up AGAIN. She wrote in my chart that I should have a sonogram at my next visit, but didn't schedule it with the sonogram technician. Luckily, they scrambled around and fit me in and everything turned out fine. (Thank goodness...otherwise they would have had a hysterical pregnant woman and her irate husband making a major scene in the waiting room!)

The appointment with Dr. Estrin was just routine. Nothing too monumental there. The sonogram, however, was out of this world! Not only did we see a clear indication that it's a little boy I'm carrying, we saw our little guy bouncing around and swinging his arms (pitcher's arms, Drew thought). We saw everything from feet to fingers to eyes to his brain. All 4 chambers of the heart were visible and everything measured to textbook standards. So far, he's healthy, he's growing...and he's a he!!

Both Drew & I were 100% cool with either sex. After everything we've been through, a healthy baby is all you wish for. But I have to say, watching my husband light up when Julie the sonogram technician found the boy parts brought more than one tear to my eyes. I will never forget that moment as long as I live. When we got to the parking lot, Drew gave me a huge hug and we both immediately grabbed our cell phones. We were on such a high and there were grandparents to notify!

As planned, we spent the rest of the day in Kansas City. We started at Babies R Us and got a general idea of the baby gear we will either be buying soon or registering for. We took a quick detour through Golf Galaxy (which is conveniently located next door to Babies R Us...someone was sure thinking when they chose that location!) then grabbed lunch at Cheeseburger in Paradise. From there it was off to Nebraska Furniture Mart where we ordered furniture for the nursery - a crib and dresser for now. Still hunting for the right glider chair. And naturally, now that I know we're having a boy my mind is racing with ideas for decorating his room and preparing for his arrival. And the clock is ticking...it's full steam ahead now!

Drew & I agreed that after today this pregnancy seems even more real. Perhaps it was seeing our little guy and how much he looks like a baby instead of a tadpole. Perhaps it's knowing that it's a boy instead of having to refer to him as "baby" or "it". In any case, it was more than a five star day...it was magical!

Heidi and Drew,

I'm thrilled for the two of you!!!!!!
I couldn't help but think today about how good you where with your little brother when he was a baby and now my little girl is going to be a mother of her own. Your right - today did make everything seem so much more real. I'm so happy for the two of you and I know you'll be the best Mom in the world to that lucky little boy!!

P.S Drew I'm thinking there's a shoulder surgery to get scheduled because I think there is lots of
baseball throwing in your future.

Love Gramma Wags

I'm so very happy for you both. I'm so glad you spent the whole day together dreaming of future role as parents.

Now, I just have to dig out all of Linus's old newborn stuff so his little cousin can have it. I can't wait.
