Wait a Minute Mr. Postman

Note: Click on the title of this post for a little entertainment while you read.

I have a hunch by the time this baby arrives the postman and UPS driver are going to be quite familiar with our house. We've had several surprise deliveries in the past week - a wonderful change from the usual stack of junk mail, bills and occasional magazine!

The first package came from Matt (my Godfather) and Lynelle in L.A. When my Papa Rick (Dad's Dad) was a boy, he had an Uncle Bill who was a carpenter. Uncle Bill made him a child-sized chess table to sit at and play games. Somewhere along the way my Uncle Matt ended up with the table and he & Lynelle sent it to Kansas for our little boy. It is an absolutely gorgeous miniature table and I am so excited to have this family heirloom. Here's a picture of the top of the table (we haven't assembled the legs yet). Gorgeous!

The second surprise also came from L.A. Lynelle is co-hosting a baby shower for me with my mom & sister. She was in charge of invitations and I can honestly say they are the most fantastically adorable baby shower invitations ever! (And as an event planner, I've seen lots of invitations!) I can hardly wait for the shower next month!

The final surprise arrived at work today. We work closely with WorldTek Travel who is based in New Haven, CT. Even though they are not officially GCSAA staff, we consider them part of our team. They all pitched in and sent me this super awesome baby gift! I think I've said it here before, but I truly work with some amazing and kind people.

Other odds and ends:

I'm now officially feeling very pregnant. That sounds strange, I know, but it sort of snuck up on me. All of a sudden I have a very round belly. I think I've surpassed "cute little baby bump" and am now just "pregnant lady". I've noticed that I move a bit slower, have to roll to get out of bed, and sort of grunt as I get in and out of the car. Don't get me wrong, I still feel fantastic. And I'm well within the normal range of weight gain. I just can't believe how quickly time has gone...it dawned on me this weekend that I'm 6 months pregnant!

Which then reminded me how much is left to do in a fairly short amount of time. I'm traveling 8 out of the first 12 days in October. Which means this weekend is my last chance to clean out the closet and move all the clutter out of the nursery before the painter arrives Oct. 13. And don't even get me started on the rest of the things that need to happen by the end of the year!

And of course I have the constant reminder in the form of kicks, punches and cartwheels that there is indeed a growing (and extremely active) baby inside me. While I cherish every movement he makes, I did comment to Drew this weekend as I was trying to doze in the recliner during the Ryder Cup that our little man sure does know how to keep a girl awake! He's a constant mover and is now strong enough that we can see my belly bounce and twitch with his movements. It's so cool (while, I must admit, a bit creepy looking, too).

With all of these changes the reality of being just a few short months away from holding our little boy is really starting to sink in. Perhaps it's the growing belly. Perhaps it's the constant kicks. Perhaps it's this pile of baby stuff that seems to grow overnight.

I'm not sure I can put my finger on it, but with every passing day I feel less like an anxious pregnant woman and more like a mommy.
