It just dawned on me that in all of my postings since Jackson's birth, I have forgotten to do one very important thing. Thank my mom.
I knew there was no way we could keep her away when I went to the hospital. And I knew that I wanted her to be there. What I didn't know was how much I would need her.
My mom was an angel.
She arrived late Saturday night (I'll skip the part about the $400 speeding ticket). While my house is never exactly "messy", it wasn't how I would have chosen to leave it if I knew the next time I walked in the door I would be carrying my son. I also had an entire week of laundry piled up and an empty refrigerator and cupboards. While the nursery was ready, there were some last minute items that we hadn't yet stocked up on...diapers, wipes and formula to name a few. While none of this is that big of a deal, it would have made our homecoming quite a bit more stressful.
But mom took care of everything. She watched Ruby for us, deep cleaned my house, did all of our laundry, bought groceries and made some meals to freeze for later, and made several trips to Target as I discovered things I would need and didn't have. All this time we were stuck in the hospital. Meaning she didn't even see much of us, or Jack.
Kansas winter weather worked in her favor in the end and kept her here a day longer. Just in time to welcome us home and spend 1 whole day with the 3 of us. She even volunteered to do the 3 am feedings for me so I could get a few hours of sleep. All of this knowing that in a mere 5 days she was going to turn around and drive to Kansas again for Christmas.
Even during their Christmas visit, Mom took care of everything. She brought the prime and crab legs, cooked and cleaned up the Christmas meal and even continued those 3 am feedings during their stay. (Which had me totally spoiled, I might add!)
We both cried crocodile tears when she left.
I can't think of anything more powerful than becoming a parent. But watching your parents become grandparents to the child you adore is a pretty close second.
Thank you mom.

Wow! Your mom does sound like an angel. Can I borrow her? I have a few things needing to be done around here and she won't even have to do 3AM feedings... unless of course she wants to.
Heidi,
I'd do it all again in a heart beat. There was no place I'd rather have been. It was still really nice to hear how much it helped you out. That was my goal. I really miss my time alone at 4AM with JACK. Boy do I miss him. I also can't tell you how proud I was of you and Drew. What great parents you will make. My grandson is a lucky little guy.
