Friday was a great day. Felt good, went to my company Christmas party, had a nice dinner out with Drew afterwards, called it a night fairly early.
Saturday was not so good. I woke up at 3:45 am with an excruciating back ache. I knew sleep was now going to be impossible so I went downstairs to watch TV and not disturb my soundly sleeping husband. I spent the next 3 hours trying (and failing) to get comfortable. My back was killing and I was having constant contractions. Not necessarily painful contractions, but enough of a contraction that I knew it was happening. In fact, it was such a horrible 3 hours I actually got out my pregnancy books and re-read the sections on premature labor and false labor. Drew finally woke up at 7:00 and gave me a back rub that helped tremendously. I then laid on a heating pad and managed to snooze for about an hour. I just kept thinking there is no way I'm doing this for another month. This kid wants out! Eventually, I decided to just toughen up. We had front row tickets to the KU basketball game. Drew had really wanted to take his Dad or best friend Dustin, but neither were able to come. I decided what difference did it make if I was having back pain and contractions in Allen Fieldhouse or in my bedroom so off we went to the game. Actually, the distraction was probably exactly what I needed. After the Jayhawks won handily, we spent the evening watching Oklahoma destroy Missouri in the Big XII Championship Game (which broke our hearts as you can imagine). I laid on the heating pad and finished up thank you notes from last week's baby shower.
I woke up Sunday morning absolutely pain free. No back ache, no contractions. Just a wiggly little boy. I really have no idea what's going on with the little guy; although, my best guess is that he's starting to make his decent. I have a hunch the contractions are helping him scoot down and the back pain is probably related to his positioning - maybe he's laying on my spine or something? We have a Dr. apt. on Tuesday, including an ultrasound, so I'll be sure to get more details then. I'm probably jinxing myself my putting this in writing, but my gut says one way or another he'll be arriving early. If I have another night like Saturday I'll be tempted to go in there and get him myself!Since I'm feeling so good today, it's been quite productive. I got all of the shower gifts washed and put away. I made a list of the things we didn't get but need to have in time for his arrival. There is a Target run in my near future! I started packing my hospital bag (Saturday night's scare moved that task a littler closer to the top of my to-do list!). And I think we are completely ready for the holidays! Here's a peek:
