Learning As We Go

I screwed up this week.

A couple of nights ago Jackson was just not himself. He was a bit fussy and having a really hard time going to sleep. He also spit up a few times, which is out of character. It seemed he had an upset stomach and Drew & I were both stumped as to the cause. Almost simultaneously we remembered that I had made a broccoli casserole for dinner the night before. Ah Ha! Broccoli was one of the foods the nurse warned us about when breastfeeding. Foods that often make you gaseous have the same effect on the baby you are nursing. Hence Jackson's upset stomach. (That's our theory anyway.) By morning he was back to normal. Lesson learned...no more broccoli.

In other news, we've had a few outings this weekend. Jackson made his first appearance at my office on Friday and met the girls at work. Needless to say he was a huge hit and I enjoyed catching up with everyone too. We also ventured to Costco with Daddy to stock up on some items. Somehow a new HDTV made it's way into the truck as well. A belated Christmas present I suppose and a pretty cool addition to the "Man Room".

Finally, Jack has his first stuffy nose. It breaks my heart to hear him sniffling, but so far I'm not overly concerned. Drew & I are both a bit stuffy as well. He is still eating fine, acting like himself, has not run a temperature and does not have a cough so I'm hoping it's nothing more than a little stuffiness. But we're watching him closely just in case. I've also been running a humidifier to add some moisture to the dry air. If any of you Moms out there have other tips please share!

3 weeks into our life with Jack and we're all doing great. Even Ruby is acting less "cautiously curious" and more comfortable around the baby. We're starting to get the hang of our new routine and I don't even feel horribly sleep deprived thus far. In fact, it's hard to even remember life before him.

I'll leave you with a quick pic of Jack and Drew reading stories this morning. It came out a bit fuzzy, but I love this one anyway.

Nik,
What we would do without Aunt Nikki worrying about our vegetable intake? :)
Hugs from all 3 of us!
