Two Months

My baby is 2 months old! Where did the time go? I'm just sure the next time I blink he'll be 12.

We marked the occasion with a trip to the pediatrician for his 2 month check-up. The good news: he's a perfectly well baby. The bad news: 2 month visit means vaccinations in the form of 4 shots. Ouch! Here are the highlights:

  • My preemie is not so tiny anymore. He weighed in at a whopping 11 lbs. 2 oz. Not kidding. In 1 month he went from the 8th percentile in weight to the 36th percentile! And that's on the "normal" 2 month old scale, not an adjusted scale based on being premature. Dr. Peterlin said it's quite common for preemies to have a huge growth spurt like that and she was thrilled with his weight gain. I also think this huge growth spurt explains his increased fussiness of late. It's hard work growing that much!

  • He also grew 2 inches to 22.5 and his head grew 1 inch to 15.5. Both of those numbers are also in the 30-ish percentiles.

  • Shots are not fun. Daddy totally chickened out and didn't make it to the appointment so I got to be the bad guy all by myself. Jack cried pretty hard (I managed not to) but as soon as I swept him into my arms he settled down pretty quickly. 2 shots in each leg. Poor guy. He has tolerated it extremely well. So far no real temperature (we started Tylenol immediately) and his legs don't seem to be bothering him much. He was extra cuddly last night and slept a lot but other than that he's been acting quite normal. Tough kid.

I didn't get a very good photo on his 2 month birthday, but here he is snuggling with Daddy before bed.
