Off to Daycare!

Jack celebrated his 3 month birthday by heading to his first day of daycare at Holly's. He was such a trooper. And so was mom, I might add!

The morning was it's usual whirlwind as we got ourselves, an infant and the Laboradiva, who insists on a morning walk, all ready for the day. Drew & I did the drop off together for Jack's first day. I needed the moral support and he needed to meet Holly in person. I held it together until the very end. After talking through his schedule and a few details with Holly I felt the tears start to come. I told Holly I was about to lose it, gave Jack a quick kiss and rushed out of the house. I drove Drew home to get his truck (ah...the convenience of living just 1 block from daycare) and by the time I was headed to work I had recovered.

Another benefit of our daycare arrangement is that I work with 2 women who also take their boys to Holly's house. Angela sent me a note at 8:30 am and said Jackson was sound asleep when she dropped her son Grant off. That's my boy - cool as a cucumber just like his Daddy. Tracy was not on drop off duty yesterday, but she did send me a note to see how I was holding up and reassure me how much her son Keegan has thrived while at Holly's house. The icing on the cake was 2 separate messages from Holly throughout the day giving me updates and telling me how well Jack was doing. She said she was having a really hard time putting him down. To brighten my day even more, Cortney sent a beautiful bouquet of yellow tulips to my office. What a great best friend I have!

It was so much fun picking him up at the end of the day. He was wide awake and playing happily with Holly when I arrived. She gave me his chart for the day which included all of his naps, feedings and diaper changes. I met a few more of the kids who were still waiting to be picked up. Then we headed home. Jack was pretty tired in the evening, as I expected he would be from all the stimulation of daycare, but he seemed completely unfazed by the entire experience.

And so we survived. In fact, I would consider it a great success! And one more milestone to check off in our "new normal" as a family of 3.

Here is Jack at 3 months old after just arriving home from his first day of daycare. Not exactly my little preemie anymore!

And here he is just a short time later. Totally crashed.
