A Fall Tradition

This is my favorite time of year. When I think of fall I think of football season, sweatshirts, pumpkin spice candles, homemade soup, hot chocolate, crackling fires, and all things apple. Caramel apples. Apple cider. Applesauce. Apple pie.

Apple Orchards.

When I was growing up, we visited Smalls Fruit Farm in nearby Mondamin, IA nearly every Fall. It became a tradition for our family and one all 5 of us looked forward to every year. That Wagner tradition has now become an Elser one. Last year, Drew & I discovered Fieldstone Enterprises in Overbook, KS and I was eager to go back with Jackson in tow. As an added bonus, Aunt Nikki was in town so all 4 us headed to the orchards.

As it turned out, we were either a little late in the season or it just wasn't a great crop this year. The trees were pretty picked over and most of the good apples were up high and only accessible with the apple picker. But that didn't stop us from walking away with 4 large bags of apples. Enough to make several pies to freeze as well as a hefty batch of homemade applesauce.

It was a beautiful day and, as always, Jackson loved being outside. He even got in on some of the picking.
And eating.

Here's to Fall. And to old traditions renewed!
