We have officially begun time-outs at our house.
Somehow we managed to make it almost 2 years without a need for much in the way of discipline other than just redirecting naughty or potentially dangerous behaviors. The honeymoon is over. Jackson has an ornery streak, no doubt, and can be a stubborn little dude, too. And now that he is talking so much, he can be down right defiant.
Enter the time out.
We're still perfecting it and I'm not sure it's 100% effective quite yet, but we're working on it.
And then the little bugger outsmarted us.
He was recently put in time out for repeatedly pulling clean, folded laundry out of the hamper despite being told to stop several times in a row. He fussed a bit, but served his time out. In this case, the time out spot was against the wall in the man room. After 1-2 minutes, Drew told him he could come out of time out and asked Jackson if he was done throwing laundry now.
Jack's reply: "No. More wall."
Uh.....
We granted his wish and sent him back to the time out spot, but it kind of loses it's luster when he's there by request.
He's not even 2 yet. What on earth are we in for?
