That is why Drew gets full credit for the colorful turn the playroom took at the eleventh hour.
I planned on the playroom mirroring the red and khaki colors in our family room since the two rooms are open to each other. As I was prepping and taping the walls the night before painting was to begin, Drew suggested that copying the family room didn't feel very playful or kid-like. Instead, he had visions of bright colors, or even murals, on the walls. Talk about throwing a wrench into things.
But I knew he was right. I just needed help determining how to make the two rooms go together without necessarily matching. Enter Lawrence Decorator Center. I've been doing business with them since we bought our first house (8 years ago?) and have not been disappointed yet. Sure, you pay a premium for the Benjamin Moore paint they carry, but their service, expertise and guidance are well worth it to me. Besides, it's quality stuff and I'm all for supporting a local business.
I walked into the store with a photo of the playroom, the name of the colors in the family room and not much of a plan. While I had ruled out stripes or patterns on the wall in favor of bold, solid colors (to offer good contrast behind our new backless shelving system as well as a blank slate to display Jackson's own original art) I didn't have much else in mind.
I walked out of the store with a color pallet I love but never would have come up with on my own. 4 different colors - one for each wall.
Broadway Lights
Hudson Bay
Spanish Red
Jalapeno Popper
I love it!
My favorite part of the room is quite possibly the blue door.
Good call on adding color, Drew. Here is the view from the family room.
And the view looking back.
Now that looks like a play room!
