Game Day

We have season tickets to Jayhawk Football games (thanks to Drew's connections at work), but for one reason or another with only 2 home games left we had yet to go to a game.  There are a whole list of reasons excuses:  not the best weather, don't have a sitter, perfect day for golf, too much to do at home, etc.  But the truth is, this team is hard to watch.  It's painful to say, loyal Jayhawk fans that we are, but they are horrible.  Like record-breaking horrible.  So more often than not, we passed on our tickets to friends and watched the game beating from home.

October 22 happened to be a gorgeous fall day and in-state rival Kansas State was in town for an 11 am game.  It was the perfect opportunity to load up the family and head to Memorial Stadium for game day.

HyVee sponsors a Hawk Zone at every home football game.  The practice field is roped off and filled with inflatable games, face paining and other activities for kids.  Jackson was too little to really enjoy it last season, so we were excited to give it a try for the first time this year.

It was a blast!

The first stop was the bounce house.  Jackson had never experienced a bounce house before and boy was he a fan.

Then he spotted Baby Jay. In the past, he admired the Jayhawks from afar but didn't have much interest in getting too close. Not so this time! Not only did he run right to Baby Jay for a high-five...
He didn't hesitate to give him a great big bear hug!
Then we moved on to some other activities.

There was this massive inflatable slide (pardon the poor photo quality, I was trying to snap pics on my iPhone while juggling shoes, socks, water bottles, etc.)

And another inflatable that simulated football drills.
Jack was definitely one of the smallest kids to conquer both the slide and the obstacle course - making his Daddy quite proud!

Just as we were wrapping up at the Hawk Zone, the band came marching down Campanile Hill.  Jackson, of course, stopped in his tracks and danced to the beat of the drum.
Eventually we headed into the stadium.
Man are my guys two peas in a pod!
Unfortunatley, we didn't stay long.  The game quickly became yet another blow out and Jack was ready for lunch and a nap by the end of the first quarter.  Honestly, we didn't hate to leave.  In fact, Drew was well on his way around the golf course by halftime!

Despite the sad state that is Jayhawk football this year, we had an absolutely fabulous time.  In fact, we've already decided we'll be back for the final game of the season.  Not necessarily for the football game, but for the HyVee Hawk Zone!

And thankfully...basketball season has just arrived.
