About a month ago, I tackled a project that I've wanted to do since we bought our house but was just too intimidated to tackle.
I painted our entry way.
I wanted something that makes a really big statement when you walk in the front door. Something bold but not so dark that it shrinks the space and makes you claustrophobic. Choosing the perfect color had me stumped. And then there was the issue of the high ceilings and my comfort level on really tall ladders suspended over staircases. So the entry remained unpainted.
Then I got a sample of "Pinch of Spice" from Benjamin Moore and was in love. So I put my fears aside and went for it.
This was as far as I could reach. And for a while, I was pretty sure our entry would stay that way forever.
Thanks to a fancy folding ladder and Drew as my spotter I managed to reach every last inch.
So in love with Pinch of Spice!
Next up was the kitchen.
Once the cabinets were painted black, the walls suddenly looked yellow. Mustard yellow. I wasn't a fan. About 6 sample colors later (as you can see in the background of the picture below) I landed on Carrington Beige. A color I already owned, believe it or not, as it's on the ceiling in our master bedroom.
I had a helper this time who couldn't wait to put on his tool belt and help me remove the chair rail.
Where we uncovered this.
A little elbow grease (damn you wallpaper!) and some spackle later and we were all prepped and ready to go.
No bold statements here, but the new color is creamy and clean and bright and just right.
It's amazing what a coat of paint can do.
