Dear Jackson,
Here we are celebrating another birthday - you're four! - but I find myself wishing I could push a pause button. I was prepared for you to grow up fast, but not quite this fast.
I'm supposed to be teaching you all sorts of lessons as you grow up; but more often than not you are the one teaching me. Teaching me to live in the moment. To not sweat the small stuff. To lead by example. To love whole heartedly. To laugh until it hurts.
Even at four, you are perhaps the wittiest person I know. Constantly surprising me with the things you come up with. You will do almost anything for a laugh and I find it nearly impossible not to oblige. You give magical hugs. You have out-negotiated me on more than one occasion. You are silly and ornery and thoughtful and kind.
I'm proud of you in more ways than I can name.
I know a day will come when you no longer need me to hold your hand, snuggle you to sleep or make your ouchies go away. When the time comes to let you spread your wings and fly - I will.
Just not yet.
Happy Birthday Little Man.
Love,
Mommy
