We managed to fill our 2 day visit in Boston with great food, shopping, sightseeing and tons of girl talk. It couldn't have been better.
After a cancelled flight on Thursday, Cort arrived Friday morning and we decided to spend the first day in the suburb of Burlington where our hotel was. There were great restaurants and a huge mall within a few blocks so we were well entertained. After spending a few minutes catching up we hit the Burlington Mall. My purchase highlights:
- My first trip to Motherhood Maternity. I don't need them quite yet, but I picked up a couple of cute tops on mega sale and this little black dress. I have to admit, it was a little weird being in a maternity store. But I'm glad Cortney was along for my first purchase.
- I picked up some sunglasses (left mine in the car at KCI) and a new purse at Macy's. I was seconds away from buying a coach bag that I've had my eye on. It was 30% off...what are the chances?! But even at the reduced price, my practical side got the best of me and I couldn't bring myself to spend $250 on a purse - even though it was almost $100 off! This Nine West purse I bought instead will do just fine.
After shopping we had lunch at the Cheesecake Factory and took a couple of slices of cheesecake (Chocolate Raspberry Truffle and Vanilla Bean) back to the room for later. After recuperating back at the hotel for a couple of hours (and admiring our purchases) it was time to eat again so we hit Legal Sea Food for crab cakes and coconut shrimp. We stayed up late visiting and eating cheesecake in bed. A total throwback to our college years only this time we were in a Marriott instead of in bunk beds!
Saturday was our day to take in all Boston has to offer. We had grand plans of brunch at this great local diner in Somerville, MA followed by a duck tour of Boston (which has nothing to do with ducks, as I originally thought). Unfortunately, the day didn't turn out quite as planned. We did eat at Johnny D's and their jazz brunch was a highlight of the day. Super cool place! After that we drove to the Prudential Center to buy tickets for the famous Boston duck tour. Unfortunately, they were already sold out for the entire day. We decided to take advantage of the navigation system in the rental car and just do our own touring, so we got back in the Impala and took off to explore on our own. I have to say we were quite successful. We saw pretty much everything. Newburry St., Boston Common, MIT, Harvard, Fenway Park (by accident...and it was game day. Not cool.), the Harbor, some adorable neighborhoods and lots more I can't think of at the moment. Our favorite was Faneuil Hall Marketplace. It was a lot of sightseeing and lot of fun, but I was pretty tired after driving through the city all day so we headed back to the hotel early that evening. We ate dinner at Dandelion Green - a place close by and recommended by the hotel staff. The food was delicious, but we both decided it reminded us of somewhere our grandparents would take us. Oh well. We went back to the hotel, got comfy, hung out by the pool until the mosquitoes chased us inside. We stayed up until midnight talking and laughing.
We grabbed a quick breakfast together this morning and then I had to hit the road for Portland, ME. It was really hard to say goodbye.
I have some pictures from the weekend; although, once again, not nearly as many as I intended on taking considering I had the camera in my purse the entire time. When I get home I'll post a link.
Now, it's back to reality. I'm here in Portland and the rest of our group will start to arrive in a few hours. I'm going to spend a little time getting myself organized and back into "work" mode. I have to venture to the wharf to purchase some ferry tickets and make sure tonight's lobster bake on Peak's Island that I have arranged is all a go. The next 2 days will be busy and will go fast. Then it's back home to Drew & Ruby who I always miss despite all the fun.
Cortney - thanks for a perfect 2 days. We now have another adventure to add to our endless list of memories! I miss you already.
