The Unofficial Start to Summer

If Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer, I'd say our summer has gotten off to a pretty great start!

Our good friends, the Stoddard family, came to visit on Saturday.  We have been eager to give the new patio a spin and they were our first guests.  We turned the backyard into a playground complete with tents, tunnels and ball pits.  Then threw some beer and cherry limeade on ice, burgers on the grill and had a great time with our friends.  I've been in a bit of a rut with my camera lately and didn't take many pictures, but here are a few of the festivities.
How cute are these two?
I have a feeling Jackson & Ashlyn are going to be causing trouble together (and best of friends) for many years!

Another highlight was a visit to a u-pick strawberry patch.  We were a little late (our busy schedule and some rainy weather got in the way of an earlier trip) so the berries were at the end of their season.  In fact, it was the last weekend they were open.  We still managed to pick about 4 lbs of strawberries and had a wonderful time.  Jackson was a super picker.  Since the strawberries were down at his level, he would spot a red berry, pick it himself and toss it into the box with no instruction from me whatsoever.

Next year we'll be sure to go earlier when the berries are in their prime.

It was a lovely 3-day weekend at home with my family.  And as icing on the cake, our quarterly cleaning lady came on Tuesday.  I've kept my new years resolution and am splurging on some deep cleaning assistance once a quarter.  It is so worth it.  There's nothing like walking in the door after work to a spotless house!

So that's how our summer (or unofficial summer anyway) has started.  Hope yours is off to a good start, too!
