And another clothespin has been dropped in the bucket!
Recently, Jackson completed the Lawrence Public Library's Summer in the City reading program so yesterday we headed to the library to turn in his paperwork.
In hindsight, I wish I would have taken a picture of his reading list for the record books. He had to complete 12 books by the end of the summer - a task that is quite easy to do considering we check out 5 books at a time every week or two. By memory, some of our favorites on the list were The Gruffalo; Hilda Must be Dancing; Murmel, Murmel, Murmel; The Little Red Hen (Makes a Pizza); Edwardo the Horriblest Boy in the Whole Wide World and Duck on a Bike.
Here is Jack talking with the librarian as he turned in his form.
He received a super cool backpack (Jack chose blue) that contained a certificate of completion and coupons for free pizza, ice cream and a book at the library's book sale in September.
His name will also be on the library wall (again, he chose a blue card). I love the scene they created with The Lorax theme. So far, just over 1,000 kids have completed the program and there's still more than a month to go!
Of course, the best part was getting to choose a brand new book to take home and keep.
Here's Jack's choice.
As if that wasn't enough excitement for a Sunday afternoon, by pure accident we happened to be at there just before the 3:30 pm children's story time began. Of course Jack wanted to stay so we found a spot on the carpet and joined the fun. We quickly learned that story time is followed by a simple craft based on the day's theme. Cool! On this particular day the book and craft theme was turtles.
Here is Jack decorating his paper plate turtle after gluing on all the pieces for his head, tail, feet and shell.
And here he is walking his new turtle (it's a blurry photo, but the turtle is on a string) to the desk to check out.
It was fun - we'll be sure to visit the Sunday afternoon story time again.
Hooray for checking off another item on our 2012 Summer Bucket List. And Hooray for the Lawrence Public Library for providing the fun. We're big fans!
